My sons,
Miri is a coastal city in northern region in Sarawak, Malaysia. Miri granted as tourism city 20 May 2005. Miri is a great place to be in whether for leisure and relaxation, for adventure sports or for a unique cultural experience. For me, Miri is a slow pace city. It still have huge potential to grow even though Oil& Gas fall in recent years causing it look like ‘dead city’ actually not.
The food outlets are various – food courts and stalls, fast-food shops, cozy cafe to coffee shops, fine dining, international cuisine. For Muslims, you are easily access to halal food. I am looking forward to see the competitive spirit in Food and Beverage business. My opinion, the small F&B lack of hunger to improve their cooking skills. Eg. kolok mee – is common dishes in here. To have a tasty kolok mee, only 3-5 renowned cafe. However, don’t look at one side only. F&B need to be boost in order to attract more tourists.
Miri has a tropical rainforest climate. So, recreational outdoor activities such as exploring and diving into deep blue sea, hiking & trekking in tropical rainforests and nature reserves, sightseeing on the beach. There are plenty of cultural events held in Miri City, such as Hari Gawai on 1st and 2nd June, Miri Cultural Heritage week and Christmas Parade. However, if you ask me regarding transportation, I would say improvement is necessary. It is not easy to access certain tourist spots: Niah National Park, Lambir Hills National Park and Gunung Mulu National Park if you don’t have rented car or proper plan trip. The Grab car rarely want to go that far because they loss profit as the journey to return back to Miri. Normally, they will double the price in order to cover the expense. I don’t blame drivers cause they have a hard time too. Hope someone or maybe Goverment able to improve the transportation part.
English, Mandarin and Malay language are widely spoken in Miri. You wouldn’t have difficulty asking for directions or communicating with Mirians.
I really encourage foreign friends to travel Miri so we can see how the rest of the world views our beloved Miri. Welcome to Miri.
