The song, I Can Only Imagine released on 2001 by MercyMe band before the inspiring story behind the song come into movie on 2018. It was released as the breakout single to MercyMe’s first studio album, ALMOST THERE. Now, the album is certified triple platinum (3 millions copies sold). The movie is about Hope and Forgiveness and do share this movie to people you know has suffered from abuse. It received K-Love Fan Awards (Film Impact), GMA Dove Awards (Inspirational Film of the Year)
My super short Synopsis:
The film started with a young boy, Bart Millard who been abused by short temper father. This boy love to listen music and creates things but destroy by his dad. Bart’s mom bring Bart to week long christian camp and meet Shannon. When he back home, his mom left him with his dad. Then story move to Bart in high school dating with Shannon. He is a football player like his dad was but injury on his leg or ankle that take away his dream. At school with injury on his leg or ankle, he is spotted by music teacher of his singing talent and casts him as the lead in Oklahoma that blows everyone away. Then, Bart’s father is sick and do check up but informed he had low blood sugar and a mass in his body (actually is pancreatic cancer).
After graduate from high school, Bart pursue a life in music. He found a band, MercyMe. They catch the attention of producer Scott Brickell at youth camps and Christian organizations. Bart’s dream fallen when record executives tell him he’s either not good enough or not ready during a Nashville showcase. Bart come home and find out that his father changes. Reading bible and is working on becoming a better man. However, he unable to forgive his father until he learns of his father’s grave condition. They spend time together till his father passes away. After the funeral, Bart join MercyMe. While on the tour bus, he looks in his journal and get inspire to write the lyrics till it become a song “I Can Only Imagine”. Although, the song is actually going to sing by Amy Grant, Christian singer at the concert for the first time, Amy invites Bart up on stage to sing the song for IT is Bart’s story. Amazing song begins its journey. The ending, I let you to find out.

The movie and the words so strong to me for it is about dad and son. The moment his dad passed away remind me about my dad (your grandpa) who I unable to be with him of his last breath. He went to Luanda, Angola when he suffered pain and sent to hospital. Initially diagnosed that his small bowel twisted and had surgery. After surgery, his condition don’t show any sign of improvement. So, went through bowel scan and found tumor at anus. He required second surgery and success taken out the tumor. He stayed at ICU for fast recovery but things goes wrong that night. He entered shock condition (lack of water, or liver reject absorb water) and left us. I felt so regret that I don’t chance to say “Thank You Dad and I love You” as the words are hard to say when I become adult and failed to bring him to Jesus. I remembered I sent a text message that he never received it. Written “Daddy, I pray for your recovery. Hope you can come back to have reunion with family. I Love You, Dad”. NOW,
